From 24th to 26th October 2017, the ICS in Stuttgart again threw open its doors to the TD sector, and we were thrilled to attend once more.
With 4,300 participants and more than 250 presentations, workshops, tutorials and tool presentations, the tekom annual conference is clearly still the main event in the industry. With Intelligent Information and the newly developed standard iiRDS for interactive content delivery at the forefront of the conference, the focus this year was firmly on the future of information preparation, distribution and exchange: exciting topics that are becoming increasingly unavoidable in the field of technical writing.
This year, a wide range of engaging presentations were again held in our BlueBox, including on the topic of iiRDS: A robot speaks to SCHEMA CDS. Together with our partner doctima GmbH, we demonstrated how content delivery using iiRDS will function in practice.
If a faulty robot informs the CDS in iiRDS format precisely what the problem is, the service technician no longer needs to search for the appropriate information. All the necessary repair steps will be immediately displayed on the connected tablet. The technician carries out these steps and updates the CDS using the tablet and the machine itself. As soon as everything is finished, the robot automatically goes straight back to work.
This use case for the new iiRDS standard was demonstrated on Wednesday 25/10/2017 by Sebastian Göttel, our head of sales and marketing, alongside other representatives from the Information 4.0 working group. Our partner doctima visually recreated this scenario on their own stand using a fully functional miniature robotic arm, Raspberry Pi, SCHEMA CDS and a tablet.
In our BlueBox we also introduced the latest innovations in SCHEMA ST4 2018, as well as the new Workflow Designer and the upcoming Workflow Automation Library, in our extremely well-attended presentation Everything’s running like clockwork. Automation is one of our primary goals – one with which we made progress last year by introducing the project configurator in ST4, and which we continue to work towards with our new Workflow modules. Not least because of all the exciting presentations taking place at the BlueBox, our sales colleagues on the stand were in constant dialogue with potential customers.
Of course our stand party on the first day of the fair was again a complete success. Our guests were thoroughly entertained with currywurst, pasta arrabiata, delicious canapés, drinks and good music.
